Today, POW and the NRDC released a report that placed an economic value on winter. Last season, when we travelled to Washington with pro athletes to meet Congressmen to talk with them about climate change’s effects on winter sports, many told us that it would be nearly impossible for them to support climate legislation without knowing the economic impact of climate change on their individual state. Having lived through one of the toughest winters in history, we knew the economic impacts first hand, but realized we needed more to have any meaningful conversations there.
We had a mandate to place a price tag on winter. So here you go. We hope this changes the dialogue within the winter sports industry about climate change and our goal is to bring this back to DC soon to have follow up meetings with those who asked for it.
