A look back at #crushit4climate

According to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, one dairy cow creates the equivalent of 23 people's waste. That means a 2,000-cow dairy operation will generate as much organic waste as Greenfield, WI (pop. 36,720).

Our climate has been in the news a lot lately, and sometimes it takes more then just some news program to get people motivated to talk and begin thinking about a matter that effects the entire planet. What better way then to get folks out in nature and the Protect Our Winters organization did just that with this event. Hope everyone else took some time to get outside and look and enjoy this fragile world.

Overlapping seasons🏔⛱⛷
.
When you visit places you love from one season to the next, what things do you notice that have changed? Things that haven’t? What has changed about you since last you visited? What hasn’t?
.
The introspection that comes from being outdoors is truly incomparable to any other experience we have as humans, I think. When we go outdoors, I think we are allowed and encouraged to be more honest with ourselves in deeper ways, without pretense, without the facades we might put on for others in our daily lives. I’ve been exploring this lately with the constantly growing and imposing feeling of social media in the outdoors. As a concept I think the facades that we put on to come across as more palatable to a wide audience are draining.
.
In a similar way, I think I’ve been concerned with coming across to others as someone who’s doing cool or interesting things and it makes me feel guilty because I’d like my life experiences to be more of just kind of an open journal to myself to read later on and reflect on. I think to that point I’ve sort of realized that there are interesting things in anyone’s life that are worthy to look back on. However, I think those are for each of us to enjoy individually and not to show off to others.
.
In my life I think there are a lot of these sorts of instances of being given the choice to pretend to be someone you’re not, but I’m left feeling like I’m just awful at keeping up the facade of not being stoked on the things I love and excitedly trying to hang out with people I admire. I don’t know, I think I’ve realized this more and more going out skiing with someone who only has a flip phone and no interest in pandering to people he doesn’t know. It leaves one to only care about the things and people immediately in front of you rather than constantly thinking about taking a photo or video for the ‘gram.
.
There’s no right or wrong to it and I’m still exploring, I’ll let you know if I find anything more.

To our #OutdoorState who got out last month to #CrushIt4Climate, we salute you.🤙🏼 As Spring emerges and we continue to find ourselves outside soaking up the season, we’re inviting to you keep crushing it with us!

We added 30,000 new climate advocates in March, and we’ve got another challenge on deck to keep the momentum alive. Our next goal is to raise $30,000 in donations - one buck per person. And to kick it up a notch, if each person who crushed it last month donates just one dollar, we’ll hit our goal and receive a dollar for dollar match from an anonymous donor - doubling the effort! 🙌🏽

All of the work we do here at POW wouldn’t be possible without the support of the Outdoor State, and rest assured that your donation helps us continue to provide climate solutions, work with climate champions and continue to fight to protect our outdoor playgrounds. Head to our link in bio to donate today!
