
Brittany Leavitt
Professional Climber
Brittany Leavitt is a Maryland-born, Brooklyn-based educator, climber, and community organizer committed to making the outdoors more inclusive. As Executive Director of Brown Girls Climb, she uplifts women and queer folks of color through mentorship, representation, and leadership programs, while also working with organizations such as REI, Outdoor Afro, and the Appalachian Trail Conservancy. Brittany has worked with National Parks like Yosemite to create community festivals and has been featured in Climbing Magazine, The New Yorker, PBS, and The Washington Post. While also having spoken at Universitys and Festivals such as SXSW, Yale, Dartmouth, and more.
A seasoned climber with over 16 years of experience, Brittany has summited Mount Kilimanjaro, Baker, and Rainier, climbed globally from Fontainebleau to the Gunks, and backpacked Chile’s W Trek. She is also a certified Wilderness Medicine Instructor, Leave No Trace Level 2 Instructor, and Single Pitch Instructor Candidate. Her community work includes roles at Color the Crag, Queer Ice Fest, and as a board member of Farm to Crag.
Outside of climbing, she co-runs Cooper Street Garden, an award-winning community space in Brooklyn focused on food justice, intergenerational care, and mutual aid. Brittany’s work bridges adventure, advocacy, and collective care rooted in the belief that climate justice and human rights are deeply connected.
