Ocean Advocate & Professional Waterman

Bruckner Chase is an internationally recognized ocean advocate and professional waterman whose athletic career spans the world in the most challenging adventures and events on water and land in some of the harshest conditions imaginable. His 2010 25-mile swim across Monterey Bay launched both the BLUE Ocean Film Festival and his own career committed to moving others from awareness to personal, sustainable action that benefits our oceans and our communities. His athletic career spans decades both on land and in the water having competed as a professional triathlete before progressing to ultra-distance trail running, marathon swimming and now ANYTHING that gets him on or in the ocean with a focus on the disciplines of surf lifesaving sports.

Bruckner’s athletic pursuits and Ocean Positive’s innovative, evidence-based initiatives from American Samoa to Poland and the Jersey Shore enable opportunities to empower and positively impact individual and community behavior towards our shared aquatic environments while also building capacity and opportunities across multiple areas from para-sports to coastal safety. A NOAA Cooperative Research and Development Agreement culminated in the NOAA Ocean Today “Wave Safe with Bruckner Chase” coastal safety film series, and he is currently working with NOAA to develop, write and host the new “Blue IQ” coastal educational series for 2025. Bruckner’s continues to encompass a multitude of ocean, aquatic and social impact roles including: NOAA Ocean Today Expert and Wave Safe Video Series Host, National Weather Service Advisor for Ocean and Beach Safety, Science and Conservation, The Weather Channel Coastal and Wave Safety Expert, American Meteorological Society partner for coastal weather and safety, Professional Surf Life Saving Athlete & Ocean Lifeguard/EMT, NOLS Wilderness EMT, Blue Journey Unified Para-Surf Lifesaving Program Founder, Red Bull Technical Director and Advisor for Professional Surf Lifesaving Sports.
