Our Runners

Jenna Arkin
Chief Innovation Officer, ECOS
Running is my moving meditation—a daily practice that keeps me grounded, focused, and fueled with purpose. It’s where I process life’s chaos, find clarity, and tap into resilience I didn’t know I had.
The NYC Marathon holds a special place in my heart. I used to live in Chelsea, and my daughter was born in Manhattan, so this city will always feel like home. Running through its boroughs is more than a bucket list race—it’s a full-circle moment I’ve dreamed of for years.
I’m honored to run on behalf of Protect Our Winters, and grateful to have the support of ECOS, where we work every day to reduce our environmental footprint and champion climate-safe innovation. Climate change is deeply personal to me—as a mother, a scientist, and a human being who believes the planet deserves better.

Dave Depper
Musician
Hi, I’m Dave Depper. I’m a musician from Portland, Oregon, who plays in a band from Seattle, Washington.
Running is my longest and greatest relationship – a way to stay connected to my body, a guaranteed lift no matter what mood I’m in, a handy method of exploration when I find myself in a new city, a meditation, a communion with the great and unknown energy that surrounds us all on this planet.
I’ve run five marathons previously, but the NYC Marathon has always been at the top of my bucket list of races. Lacing up and running through the intoxicating streets of New York City has always been one of my favorite things to do when I’m there, and the thought of running through all five boroughs with tens of thousands of fellow runners is just about the best thing I can imagine.
The importance of fighting climate change seems so obvious to me that it’s hard to believe others might not agree, but here we are. The planet is everything. It’s the only one we have, and when it comes to being responsible stewards of Earth, we are failing pretty miserably. At a time when our government’s dereliction of duty around climate issues is at a low ebb, we need to support the work POW is doing more than ever. I’m proud to be partnering with them for this race.

Ben Gibbard
Singer, Songwriter, Guitarist
Death Cab For Cutie & The Postal Service
Benjamin Gibbard is a multi-platinum, Grammy-nominated singer, songwriter, and guitarist. He is the lead vocalist, guitarist, and primary songwriter of Death Cab for Cutie, formed in 1997, which has released ten studio albums, including the critically acclaimed Asphalt Meadows (2022). He is also one half of The Postal Service, whose platinum-certified album Give Up (2003) remains the second best-selling title in Sub Pop Records’ history. Beyond his band work, Gibbard has released a solo album (Former Lives), collaborated with Jay Farrar on One Fast Move or I’m Gone, scored films (About a Son, Laggies), and contributed original songs to the 2011 remake of Arthur.
Alongside music, Gibbard is an avid runner. Running—especially on trails and in the mountains—has become key to his mental health and an important form of exercise-as-play rather than a maintenance chore. Gibbard is a firm believer that it benefits us as adults to harness the concept of play to maintain both fitness and joy, and for him, running offers that. For the New York City Marathon, he’s most excited about experiencing all five boroughs on foot and the energy and pageantry of this classic race, which might even make a road marathon bearable for him.
A longtime Seattle resident, Gibbard believes climate change is one of the greatest threats to life on this planet as we know it. A supporter and admirer of POW’s work, he is honored to partner with them in this fundraiser.
