POW + Waterkeeper Alliance Take Squaw

During this year’s FIS Women’s World Cup Giant Slalom and Slalom races in Squaw Valley on March 10-11, we were honored to participate in a benefit gala as co-beneficiaries alongside Waterkeeper Alliance.

Sponsored by Levi’s and hosted at the Resort at Squaw Creek, the gala featured a cocktail reception, a marching band welcoming guests as they found their dinner seats, celebrity bartenders Rachael Harris and Cheryl Sandberg, guests such as ski legends Mikaela Shiffrin, Jonny Moseley, Tamara McKinney and Julia Mancuso, speeches by both Robert Kennedy Jr., President and founder of  Waterkeeper Alliance, and our founder, Jeremy Jones. Dennis Quaid and the Sharks got everyone out on the dance floor and the night culminated in a live auction with POW Board Member and pro skier Chris Davenport auctioning off his own prize with TWO winning bids.

It was a night to remember, to say the least.

The next morning, alongside Waterkeeper Alliance, we hit the slopes for the Toyota Ski ProAm, a head-to-head team competition featuring ski racing legends, celebrities and partners – all fighting for the right to top the podium. We don’t like to brag, but we’re proud of our “Team Tamara McKinney” which included POW Executive Director Chris Steinkamp, alongside the lone snowboarder of the race, Jeremy Jones, for taking 2nd place! It was a unique and fun-filled weekend for POW and one that we are proud to have been a part of. Thank you to Squaw, the event sponsors and to everyone who participated in the weekend, while helping raise funds for our two organizations to protect our natural resources and fight climate change!

Oh yeah, and we did manage to get some laps in, too. Thanks to POW Riders Alliance pros Elena Hight and Doug Stoup and pro skier Travis Ganong for joining us for some early ups.
