Environmental Philosopher

Dr. John Hausdoerffer is an author, teacher, and environmental philosopher from Crested Butte, CO. John is a Professor of Philosophy & Environment at Western Colorado University and Director of Story & Advancement for the Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory (RMBL). John has also been both an alpine race coach and a big mountain freeride coach since 1991. Whether teaching his course in “Mountain Philosophy,” writing stories on the future of snow from RMBL’s century of mountain data, or connecting young people with the sacred value of snow for recreation and living communities downstream, John has given his life to fighting for the persistence of winter.
