Josh Howe

Professor of History and Environmental Studies

Josh Howe is the Wallace Stegner Chair in Western American Studies at Montana State University. He has written two books about the scientific and political history of climate change, Behind the Curve: Science and the Politics of Global Warming and Making Climate Change History, as well as a recent book with Alexander Lemons on toxic exposures among American military personnel during the global war on terror, called Warbody: A Marine Sniper and the Hidden Violence of Modern Warfare. His research and teaching focus on the confluence of environmental history, the history of the American West, and the history of U.S. foreign policy in the twentieth century. Josh is also a former ski racer and coach, and pathological recreator. When he is not teaching or dadding (and sometimes then, too), you can find him bouncing around the mountains and rivers of the Greater Yellowstone.
