Protect The Western Arctic
Big Oil wants a shortcut through the Western Arctic. Don’t let them have it.
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is considering a proposal that would give the oil industry much of what it asked for, including weaker environmental review, fewer chances for public input, and faster drilling approvals across 23 million acres of public land.
These ecosystems are already under enormous pressure. The Western Arctic is warming more than four times faster than anywhere else in the world, and more drilling would only speed that up, locking in additional emissions while putting wildlife habitat and Indigenous ways of life at greater risk.
Under this proposal, permits could be approved in as little as 60 days, which isn’t enough time to understand what a single project will do to the wildlife and communities who rely on this place. Fewer opportunities for project-specific review would also shut the public out of decisions with lasting consequences for our climate and public lands. The Department of the Interior’s job is to serve the public, not rubber-stamp industry requests.
Our public lands, our voice. Submit your comment to the BLM before the November 9 deadline. Demand that they protect Alaska’s Western Arctic and keep the public in the review process.
