Our Work

We help passionate outdoor people protect the places and lifestyles they love from climate change.

The impacts of climate change on the places we love—our communities, trails, mountains and waterways— are greater than ever. Changing the trajectory of climate change will take smarts. It will take guts. And it will take passion. POW is laser-focused on forming relationships with key decision-makers across the country to ensure our priorities are on their agenda We know that the solutions to address climate change largely exist, and our campaign work focuses on finding the political will to put these opportunities into action.

Federal Legislative Campaigns:

Each year, POW engages in federal policy campaigns to ensure legislation is passed on Capitol Hill to reduce emissions, add clean energy to the electric grid, invest in electric vehicles, guarantee a just transition to a renewable energy economy and reduce fossil fuel emissions on public lands. We deploy our staff, athletes and corporate partners across the nation to reinforce the common thread between the outdoors and climate change, and build relationships with key Members of Congress and discuss how they can best represent the 50 million members of the Outdoor State. Encouraging lawmakers to integrate climate action into their legislation is no easy task. Luckily, our calloused fingers are authentic. And we’re ready to put in the work.

State and Local Legislative Campaigns:

There is boundless opportunity to pass meaningful climate legislation at the state and local level, and research tells us this is one of the best tools we have for reducing emissions. POW’s network of athletes, creatives, scientists and corporate partners work to build and foster relationships at the state and local level to advance climate solutions that align with our policy priorities in our target geographies. In addition, POW actively participates in coalitions, harnessing the power of numbers to ensure these efforts are advanced.

High Impact Campaigns:

POW actively seeks partnerships on projects that fall within the scope of our policy priorities and can move the needle on climate action outside of the legislative process. These ad-hoc campaigns include partnerships and programming around issues like climate finance or local energy issues and focus on opportunities to work with different types of decision makers (from brands to banks to utility boards) on enacting climate solutions.

Civic Engagement Campaigns:

From day one, POW’s goal has been to make civic engagement and climate advocacy an integral part of the lifestyle of any outdoor enthusiast. In the future we envision, being a member of the Outdoor State automatically means you’re an advocate for the places and lifestyles you live and love, and therefore, showing up to vote isn’t optional. This is the cultural shift we seek to make.

That’s why, in election years, POW mobilizes its Alliance, including athletes, creatives, scientists, brands and resorts, to encourage civic engagement and voter turnout in key elections. This is a clear opportunity to create a cultural shift toward voting and change political will with the goal of enacting climate solutions. Join us this year to Stoke the Vote!

Turn Your Passion into Action

When we create swells of popular pressure, we can affect policy. And it’s working—the sum of our small efforts are creating climate victories where they’re needed most.
